Rohu is a fish of the carp family found commonly in rivers and freshwater lakes in and around South, Southeast Asia, Pakistan, Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh in addition to Thailand. The Rohu feeds on various plant and vegetable debris in the freshwater rivers and lakes that it inhabits. The Rohu has a golden to bronze scaling very similar to that of a Common Carp and has reddish to orange coloured fins. It is an herbivore fish which also makes for a great eating fish; it is also one of the most popular fresh water fish in South East Asia. Rohu can be found in weedy and slow flowing, standing rivers, freshwater lakes and ponds.  It is non oily, white fish. The upper body of Rohu has gray red tint color; the lower body is light golden color.
